About Sneha
Empowering Women

We recognize that living in a foreign country presents special challenges for women because of the lack of a family support structure, limited financial independence and / or limited English language skills. We strive to make up for this by drawing from the model of the extended family that is prevalent in South Asia. Such a model is comprised of relatives, close friends and neighbors. In that spirit, Sneha volunteers listen unconditionally to people seeking help. They partner with the callers by:

  • Providing referrals to counselors, doctors and attorneys who are familiar with South Asian culture
  • Contacting local community agencies (State of Connecticut, other social support agencies) on the caller’s behalf and making suitable arrangements.
  • Finding native-language speakers to act as liaison between the caller and the larger helping community.
